Giorgos Karagounis' goal at 59 minute gave the lead to Panathinaikos, but at 67' by penalty Giuseppe Rossi got the Villarreal equaliser at El Madrigal. The final score was 1-1 draw, whith the Spanish team feeling unlucky by loosing some good chances for goal and the Greeks complaining for a goal that Karagounis succeeded but did not counted by the referee Konrad Plautz .
