Panathinaikos, after six years, managed to qualify to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage, ending first in his group above Inter. Giorgos Karagounis' goal was enough to give the three points to his team and lead them to the last 16 as Group B winners, as Inter lost by Werder (2-1) in Germany. Even if Panathinaikos had just one point in the end of the first round, succeeded to gain ten points at last and left Inter in the second place with eight points, Werder Bremen third with seven and Anorthosis Famagusta last with six points. Inter joins the Greek team in the next round of Champions League, Werder Bremen qualified to the next Uefa Cup round and the Cypriot champions go home, after a remarkable European campaign.
